Fed: Boy's death brings national toll to 31
The national Christmas-New Year road toll has climbed to 31, after the death of a
six-year-old boy in New South Wales.
The boy was hit by a car while crossing a street in Broken Hill, in far western NSW,
on Boxing Day, and died in hospital this morning from his injuries.
His death brings NSW's holiday road toll to 12.
Queensland's road toll has risen to seven, with the death yesterday of a 19-year-old
man in hospital from injuries he suffered in a crash on Christmas Day.
South Australia's Christmas road toll stands at two after a Northern Territory man
died in an accident on the Stuart Highway.
Victoria has recorded five road deaths for the holiday period, and three people have
died in the Northern Territory.
South Australia and Western Australia have each recorded two deaths, while the ACT
and Tasmania remain fatality free.
(Eds: National road toll figures are for the period 0001 (AEDT) December 21 to 2359
(AEDT) January 6. Some states and territories have different periods.)
