Hundreds of millions of dollars were lost from the endowments of private colleges and universities in the Capital Region last year amid the global economic crisis.
In the Capital Region, Union College took the biggest hit -- 27 percent, from $391 million to $284 million -- according to a survey released Thursday by the National Association of College and University Business Officers.
The figures were from the fiscal year that ended June 30.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute lost the most money, falling 23 percent, from $793 million to $613 million.
The Skidmore College endowment fell 17 percent, from $289 million to $240 million, according to the survey. The College of Saint Rose lost 10 percent, from $26 million to $23 million.
